I’m a great admirer of Samuel Beckett, and a great admirer of Anthony Lane. So I definitely enjoyed this article on Beckett by Lane, although the latter seems to be trying a little too hard to be cool.

Lame-o newsreel-style current events coverage of pointless b.s. You can almost hear the staccato drill of the radio-trained narrator:

“Flash! Jumbo jet turned into playground for idle young!”

No Recession for Crappy Columnists

Newspapers are supposedly dying during the Great Depression Redux, but inane columnists still proliferate. In case you were aghast last time you were in a stuffy restaurant in New York, or, heavens to Betsy, Los Angeles, you’ll be glad to know that Washington, D.C. still has holdouts for neckties.
